Growth and decay is the natural process of nature’s cycle. The left over uprooted trees can actually be developed into the tangible wooden sculptures comprising of human images, animals or even specific events.

 “Great art picks up where the nature ends”

Yes, this truly is a beautiful art form introduced by Abanindranath Tagore (nephew of Rabindranath Tagore). Katum Kutum as it is commonly known as. The term is coined to mean “crafted using found objects”. Katum means form or structure and kutum means relatives.

 Trash tree branches or left abandoned tree roots are arranged into the unique resembling sculptures, toys etc.

Father of India’s modern art Abanindranath Tagore who contributed a lot to revival of ancient Indian art specifically Rajput and Moghul style also during his last phase of life gifted us with this art collection of Katum Kutum; also preserved at Shantiniketan Museum(Bengal-India).

This involves carefully observing the broken barks and twigs of the tree; using once own imagination to relate with particular being and transforming into creative art structures.

This repository of cultural heritage and ancient wisdom can be blended with contemporary acumen to create a whole new objects of aesthetic or even utility value.

It is the time that we unwind the child in us and evolve our artistic eye to identify the stems, trunks of the tree in natural shape and assemble out to form beautiful art pieces by least of carving or cutting evolved.

In this way we shall end in not only appreciating the greatness of Mother Nature even more but also add a dash of creativity in our life and eco-friendly decoration in our living rooms.
