Yes, this truly is a beautiful art form introduced by Abanindranath Tagore (nephew of Rabindranath Tagore). Katum Kutum as it is commonly known as. The term is coined to mean “crafted using found objects”. Katum means form or structure and kutum means relatives.
Trash tree branches or left abandoned tree roots are arranged into the unique resembling sculptures, toys etc.
Father of India’s modern art Abanindranath Tagore who contributed a lot to revival of ancient Indian art specifically Rajput and Moghul style also during his last phase of life gifted us with this art collection of Katum Kutum; also preserved at Shantiniketan Museum(Bengal-India).
This involves carefully observing the broken barks and twigs of the tree; using once own imagination to relate with particular being and transforming into creative art structures.
